Last week, Christianity Today published an article by World Vision U.S. President Rich Stearns titled: “Slaughterhouse Gospel: Why God dwelling with us meant gruesome rituals.” In the piece, Rich observes how the awe-inspiring tabernacles mentioned in the Biblical book of Exodus (essentially slaughterhouses for animal sacrifice) were “God’s way of communicating the severity of human sin and the requirement for atonement.” When we as believers step back and imagine the brutality of sacrifice, we gain even greater appreciation for the price Christ paid for our sins—a timely message as we reflect on our recent celebration of Easter.
