Honduras – Day 4 from Angela
There has been lots of laughter on this trip, both among our team and with the many women’s groups we have been privileged to visit! Today we went to visit Tina, a microenterprise success story! She employs several women and has a bakery which produces two products: 1. sugar cookies and 2. rosquillas, which are a snack between a pretzel and cracker, but looks like a donut! These are loved by Hondurans and they buy them by the bagful.
To make rosquillas, after mixing maize with cheese, salt and other ingredients, it is placed in a mound like pastry, put in a hand-turned machine which makes it come out like a long sausage and then you shape it into a pretzel.
We each took a turn trying to make these shapes. It was like play-dough. Unfortunately, mine kept falling to bits and appearred very misshapen. The bakery women certainly laughed at my incompetence! Definitely not as easy to make as they look!
Tina employs a number of women in the community who are now happy, contented and making a good living. By supplying work for these women she is changing the lives of women and their families in this community.
Our devotional tonight was from Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” This truly sums up our day – overflowing with hope!
