s140763-1, "Saving Lives in Eastern Uganda"Mother and Child Health: Every day, nearly 800 women die from causes related to pregnancy and childbirth and every minute, 11 children under the age of 5 die from largely preventable causes. (World Health Organization, May 2014)

In Somalia, Uganda, and Zambia – three of the hardest places to be a mother – World Vision is urgently working to end preventable maternal, newborn, and child deaths by:

-Ensuring that mothers and children are well-nourished

-Protecting mothers and children from infection and disease

-Providing access for mothers and children to essential health services

World Vision’s emphasis is on the first 1,000 days of life, from conception to age 2, because the right nutrition and health interventions during this critical window are vital for survival and make a life-altering impact on a child’s ability to grow, learn, and ultimately break the cycle of poverty.

At the household level, World Vision works through community health workers – trusted community volunteers who focus on primary health and nutrition education, behavior change, and encouraging women and families to use essential health services. At the national level, World Vision partners with governments and key stakeholders to improve the services provided and strengthen the health system.

s141249-8.Clean Water: World Vision cares about water because more children die from diseases caused by unsafe water than almost any other cause.

Every day, nearly 1,600 children die from diarrhea caused by contaminated water, poor sanitation, and improper hygiene—more than from AIDS and malaria combined.

Providing clean water and improved sanitation and hygiene transforms lives, particularly of women and girls, who are disproportionally impacted by the global water crisis.

World Vision provides more clean water in the developing world than any other non-governmental organization (NGO) reaching a new person with clean water every 30 seconds.

We work with communities by addressing not only their water needs, but a variety of challenges including health, education, and jobs. Our unique model addresses the most critical community needs, enabling us to provide sustainable solutions that to help lift families out of poverty.

Water continues to flow long after we leave because communities have ownership of the water points and water committees are trained to repair them.

How to get involved

When you join with Women of Vision, you will learn more about this critical cause and what you can do to create lasting change. Through your Circle, you will invite others to have meaningful conversations about this topic and discern how you want to respond. You will be amazed by how God works through you and in you as you go through this experience! When women unite around a purpose bigger than themselves – armed with knowledge, purpose, and hearts for making a difference – a beautiful story unfolds.

  • – We will give you free resources to get started and recommendations for books that your group can read together.
  • – You can gather weekly, monthly, or quarterly in whatever style best fits you.
  • – Each person will take action by giving a self-determined contribution towards a health care project.
  • – You will set up a simple, online giving page that you can share with others who may want to support your efforts.

Never doubt the impact you can have, regardless of your financial position! For example, $45 is all it takes to vaccinate an infant in order to prevent deadly diseases, while $50 is all it takes to provide clean water for one person who desperately needs it. It’s amazing what God will do when you step out in faith and action…someone in your life has been waiting for this exact opportunity to get involved with a life-altering cause.

She just needs you to take the first step.
